The 7-hours Basic Peer Support will discuss the psychology of the law enforcement officer throughout their career and how they are emotionally and physically affected by hypervigilance both short and long-term. It reviews basic self-care techniques for first responders. The training reviews basic peer support concepts, philosophy, and function. It reviews peer support best practices and policies from around the country. It discusses how a proactive peer support program can be helpful to first responders.Â
The ICISF Assisting Individuals in Crisis course and Group Crisis Intervention course is a 3-day combined course designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention. The course is also designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic, and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum, the Group Crisis Intervention course will prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services. Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilizations, defusings, and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals when necessary will also be discussed.Â
